Per Request a Hawaii Interisland travel blog!

Well today I had a customer, marie who requested a blog about interisland travel in the hawaiian islands, how to do it and tips on what to do.

For hawaii there are so many different ways to do interisland travel.  One request I do get a lot is a week stay with one night on each island which is really not an ideal way to do an interisland trip to hawaii and would be better off doing a 7 day hawaiian cruise.

The Norwegian Line is a great way to island hop.  The ships embark and disembark on the island of Oahu.  As of now there are 3 ships doing the 7 day sails.  The Pride of America, The Pride of Aloha and The Pride of Hawaii, sailing every Saturday, Sunday and Monday respectively.  The Pride of Aloha will be doing the 10 and 11 day sails starting in september, leaving just 2 ships doing the 7 day sails and next year starting in january the pride of hawaii will be leaving the islands leaving just the pride of america to do the 7 day sails and the pride of aloha to do the longer 10 and 11 day sails.  What makes these sails great is a lot of people only want a one week vacation but want to see many islands in a short period of time.  Doing an air/land package and seeing that many islands in one week, first of all gets costly and realistically you will get a tour of the wonderful hawaii airports.  Not the kind of vacation most people want.  Even though the flights are short usually between 35 and 45 minutes..you do have to take into account that they are air flights and you still have to check in about 60 minutes prior,go through security, if having a car you have to get to the car rental to drop off prior to that, get your luggage, get your next car, check in to your hotel, so a 30 minute flight turns into a 2 hour ordeal if not more in the long run.  If doing one week , 2 islands is the most I suggest doing..if wanting to see 3 islands take 9 days to do 3 nights on each island.

Well I get the people who want to set up camp on one island, but they just want to go to another island to see one specific thing.  Usually those things can be pearl harbor or the volcano and in that case you can do that also.  Many times I have had customers book a flight from honolulu in the morning over to hilo, get a car rental and take the day to do the volcanoes national park and fly back in the evening…makes it kind of a day tour or that days activity.  I have even had someone staying in maui for a wedding but really wanted to do the dolphin encounter so I got the girls a flight over in the morning, got them a car and they drove out to sea life park did the dolphin encounter and then flew back to maui that evening.  What makes that nice if just really wanting to do one thing on a certain island but not necessarily wanting to stay there is when travel on the flight you won’t have to check bags in or wait for bags upon arrival making it a quicker travel time.  For the island of maui there are ferries that can take you out of lahaina over to molokai or lanai for a day tour also.  Maui is the only island that you can do this from (so far).  We are still awaiting the superferry to launch in july which is a different version.  The molokai and lanai ferry system is to transport people, but you can do a molokai ferry tour with car rental package or a guided tour package making that another day trip to another island to explore or maybe for the avid golfer to take in a round of golf at one of their golf courses.

Another popular question is I want to do a helicopter tour to another island.  The helicopter tours go from every island but the tours are of that particular island.  If staying on the big island there are volcano tours, on maui either hana or haleakala tours but the choppers don’t go from island to island, that would be done through plane ride.

If wanting to do a multi-island package in hawaii an agent is always the best way to go, especially ones specializing in hawaii such as hawaii aloha travel.  We do these hawaii itineraries all day every day so we know what to do and what not to do.  For instance the order of islands to do.  If having oahu, maui, kauai and kona in the itinerary well I try not to get kona and kauai back to back because there are no direct flights, or if hilo is in the itinerary I usually try to have it before or after oahu getting a direct flight with different flight times to choose from.  Sometimes you can find direct flights from one island to the next but there may only be say 2, either early morning or late evening which most people want to go in the middle of the day to coordinate with check in and check out of the hotels.
I will never forget once one of my customers who I became great friends with even after they returned home, was having me price match an itinerary he got from an airline package company.  Well first off we beat the price by over a thousand dollars and secondly when I saw the itinerary I was horrified which is why I say use an agent who knows how to do these itienraries well and always read your itinerary carefully and dont’ just scroll to the price.  I chose the islands in a specific order because there were so many in the itinerary like I mentioned above and when I got the itinerary he had gotten elsewhere, I said to him, did you look at the flight schedule?  and he said no what’s wrong with it? …well from kona to kauai they had an itnerisland flight that made 2 stops, one in maui and one in oahu, taking them a total of almost 6 hours to reach their next destination with the layovers they had which should have only taken 35-45 minutes had flights been done right or the island order been switched around.  When having that many islands you really dont want to be wasting time back tracking and making interisland stops if it can be avoided.  When I pointed that out , he surrendered his honeymoon planning over to me and happy to report they had a great time and we are still friends.

In short there are many different ways to do interisland travel and figuring out the best way that fits your needs is important and an agent can help you coordinate and figure out the best itinerary for you.  Hawaii multi island vacations are not easy to do on your own and I’ll be honest they aren’t always the easiest for us to do either.  They take time even for hawaii specialist to plan out a trip like that sometimes too.  The flights don’t always work right the first order we do them in so we try to figure out the best island order to do making it the most cost effective and also the least time consuming for you to enjoy your trip.

If planning a hawaii vacation especially a multi-island trip call hawaii aloha travel to get a hawaii specialist to help make the perfect vacation for you.  Thank you marie for the blog topic for today and I hope  I answered any questions you may have had!

Sleek, Stylish, Stunning, Starwood!

The topic of my blog today is starwood properties.  In Hawaii there are many starwood properties.  I have seen some good starwood deals for the fall as well as all these added benefits of staying at a starwood resort.

On Oahu there is the Sheraton Waikiki, The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, The Sheraton Moana Surfrider, The W Honolulu-Diamond Head and The Royal Hawaiian.

On Maui you have the Sheraton Maui, The Westin Maui and The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas (condos)

For Kauai we have the Sheraton Kauai and The Princeville Resort.

And for The Big Island we have the Sheraton Keahou Bay Resort and Spa.

The Sheraton Waikiki has been having great deals with their Ocean Promotion on their oceanfront rooms.  I say the best deal in waikiki for an oceanfront property AND oceanfront room view.  Check out this itinerary with 2 air tickets from LAX for one week in the fall with an oceanfront room at the sheraton waikiki and roundtrip transfers with a wonderful fresh flower lei greeting.

Air itinerary (2 passengers) :

    Thu  13-Sep-07     NW   803 K  2:45pm LAX HNL  5:05pm
    Thu  20-Sep-07     NW   802 K 10:25pm HNL LAX  6:25am 21-Sep-07

Land Itinerary:

Oahu  ( Thursday, 13 September 2007 through Thursday, 20 September 2007 )
  Accommodations:
SHERATON WAIKIKI / WKKOCN: Oceanfront hotel room
Check in: Thursday, 13 September 2007
Check out: Thursday, 20 September 2007

  Transfers:
13Sep07   Lei greeting/transfer to Waikiki hotel

    20Sep07   Transfer to airport

                                   Total price: $  2931.00

Now for the added benefits of starwoods on Oahu.  Starwood offers a Keiki Aloha Program which is year round for children ages 5-12 which includes activities and games and located at the Sheraton Waikiki.  Programs run from 9am-12pm or 1pm-5pm or 630pm-9pm daily.

Cost is just $30.00 plus tax per child for a full day program which is valid for a full day or any 2 segments.  Just $20.00 per child for a half day program.
-Lunch cost is $6.50 including tax which would be charged to your room and dinner costs $12.00 including tax also charge to the room.

Where are you going to find a babysitter that cheap and a full day of activities for your child?  A day of relaxing for mom and dad and a day of fun for the kids.

Stay at one, Play at All!
On Oahu guests staying at Sheraton Waikiki, Royal Hawaiian, Moana Surfrider and Princess Kaiulani can all enjoy dining, shows, oceanfront entertainment options, fitness center, spa and signing privledges.  Does not include pool priveledges and the spa is available at Royal Hawaiian.

Now that is extra benefits to be able to stay at one hotel and use facilities of another.  Get an oceanfront room at the sheraton waikiki and go on over to the royal hawaiian for a spa day just as if you were staying at that property yourself.

If that was great…check out the benefits of the maui starwoods.

How do Hawaii hotel Prices compare?

As in one of my recent blogs I mentioned that I have moved from Hawaii to New Hampshire.  While we are trying to take in the sights here during our time as my husband is in the military so we could be moving around more and we have gone to maine and connecticut and other towns in New Hampshire itself and stayed in about 3 hotels since we have been here.  I have to say I was shocked at the prices.  Just from dealing with people day in and day out from all over the country and how many have said why are hawaii hotel prices so expensive?  Well truthfully they are not very expensive at all.  I had this big fantasy of a cheap weekend getaway , paying somewhere between $80-$90 a night at the most for a pretty nice hotel.  Boy was I wrong.  I am finding that even the hotel prices up in this area are running about $135-$150 a night for a best western type hotel that don’t even have all the amenties of the hotels in hawaii that offer those same prices.  Mind you also that we also qualify for military rates on some of these and are still paying over $100 a night. I also checked some high end brand name hotels and guess what?  Same price, for instance the hilton for a standard room was $200.00 + tax a night.  So why is it that people repeatedly say hawaii hotel prices are so high and expect the hotels to be a lower rate than their own home town?  I’m still yet to figure that out.  Since my husband always does the hotel bills when we go out of town normally I hadn’t paid much attention, but this time we extended a night and when the desk girl told me how much I started to do a little research on hotels in the area and to my surprise it was much higher than I would have thought.  Not that these hotels are not nice and are not worth the price, but not being from the area and just going off of what I am getting from people around the country I talk to I would have expected them to be a lot lower than what they are.
I’m sure we may be able to find some motel for cheaper and you can still sometimes get a hotel for about $100 a night on Oahu and some outer island hotels for just over $100 a night, but of course you get what you pay for.
This was just a observation I had from our recent stays and then some on the side research into hotel prices in this area (New England area).   So really if you research a "tourist" area as we visited groton and mystic connecticut and hampton new hampshire which are considered I guess "tourist" areas, you will probably find that the hotel prices for a decent place to stay are not much different than hawaii and you have to understand that hawaii is a vacation destination.  Usually in a vacation destination the prices may be a little higher but that is across the board not just hawaii.

Hawaii Aloha also presents the Disney!

Aloha!

Hawaii Aloha now presents Disney packages!  I’m so excited to let you all know that besides Hawaii we are now selling Disney!  Since my days in college when I was majoring in Travel Industry Management I always had these dreams of working in travel for Disney and Hawaii.  I love hotels and resorts and everything about travel.  I think it’s a time when people are so happy and relaxed and it’s a great thing to be a part of those happy times in people’s lives.  I have been selling Hawaii Travel for awhile now and it is great sharing my hometown with people.  It’s a hot destination for travel of honeymooners, anniversary couples, groups, families and more and what other destination is absolutely perfect for these same travelers but Disney.  Everyone loves Disney.  I don’t care how old or young you are Disney is another hot spot for all ages.  Now that Disney also has a cruiseline, it’s similar to Hawaii in that it offers you air/land packages with so much to see and do and also for those cruisers it offers two cruise ships to satisify everyone.  I’ve recently completed the Disney Travel Agents University course and it was so much fun and very informative.   It is a destination to keep up with as it is constantly changing and adding new things, but again that is the beauty of it.  If you went to disneyland or disneyworld 5 or 10 years ago, it’s probably pretty different today with more to see and do.  Because these two destinations are so focused on travelers, you can expect high quality and service from both destinations.

Here are some tips about disney vacations..

*The longer you stay, the less you pay!  When purchasing a ticket package, the longer ticket package you purchase the less per day your ticket is.  Say you pay for one day tickets compared to 7 day passes.  At a 7 day pass package your ticket price per day is more than half to Disney World.  Now if going to Orlando Disney World you do want to stay for at least 6 nights.  There are 4 major parks, The Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, MGM studios, and Animal Kingdom.  There are nightly firework shows, parades, rides, entertainment, shopping and of course food and night life.  To take all of that in and be able to see everything you need some time to do it.  Not to mention the 2 Disney Waterparks plus the great pools at their resorts.

*Advantages of staying in a disney resort..
Transportation to and from the parks!
Extra park hours either before or after the normal park hours.
Guaranteed admission to the parks
Disney quality and service during your entire stay!

*Packages…
Ticket packages come in many different varieties.
-You have your base ticket which allows you entrance to one theme park per day for the length of your ticket.  Meaning you may purchase a base ticket  for 7 days, first day you go to Epcot, that means you can come and go from Epcot all day, but not to the other parks until another day.
-Park Hoppers…now this is the one you want to get!  It’s the same as the base ticket, you purchase for how ever many days you will need tickets for, then you can come and go freely from park to park every single day of your ticket.  You are not restricted to just one park per day.  These tickets give you the most flexibility of activities and really makes it a care free kind of trip.
-Park Hopper with Water park fun and more option-This allows you to visit other exciting resort attractions, including two water parks,Disney quest indoor interactive theme park, Disney’s wide world of sport’s complex and of course pleasure island.
-Dining Option- you can add a dining option and then choose from over 100 restaurant options.  There are different meal plans provided and you should inquire about them if you are interested to see if they are available.
You can relax knowing many of your meals are paid for including gratuity.  You will be given a key which also works as a resort key, theme park ticket and charging priveledge.  Now that is an important key.  Guests are strongly recommended to make resrvations in advance and let them know you will be using the key for the meals.  Your meals are tracked and your server will give you a receipt showing the balance of how many quick meals, full service meals and snacks that you have left on your card.

So Much Waiting!

That’s where you are wrong!  Disney has made it more convenient for the organized traveler.  And an agent can help you to make a lot of these arrangements.

Dinner reservations at a restaurant throughout the resorts and parks can be made up to 60 days in advance.
Rides-Fast Pass service.  If you don’t want to wait in line you simply get a ticket for a designated time slot ,come back at that time and don’t wait in line!

If wanting to go during a holiday make sure you reserve in advane as disney has special shows and things for holidays.  Like everyone’s favorite It’s a Small World at christmas time is all decked out for the holiday.

Prices for Ages..
Well the hotel prices are same as anywhere else. adults are over 17 and children are 0-17 years old to stay in the room no extra charge.

Now tickets are adult price for ages 10 and up and children are ages 3-9 years old.

Check out this disney package with different options to give you an idea of what a disney package would look like with the choices I explained above.

June 17-June 23 (6 nights/7 days)
2 adults/1 junior (10-17) and 1 child (3-9)
Disney’s All Star Sports Resort (Value Hotel)
Standard Room
Base Ticket (one theme park per day for 7 days)

Ground transportation with Disney Express to and from orlando airport

Total for hotel/tickets/transportation for 4: $ 1598.88
airfare not included
Travel insurance: $119.00 for this package. (Covers cancel for covered medical reason and also covers air whether you book it through our agency seperate from the package/with the package or even on your own..can’t beat that!)
Deposit is $200.00
Final Payment due 45 days prior to arrival.
*Same package with the park hopper option is just $ 1, 766.08
*Same Package with the park hopper and water park option is just $ 1, 938.69
*Same Package with the park hopper, water park option and no expiration on tickets is just $ 2,322.09 (allows you to come back and use any unused portions of your ticket.  Without this option the tickets expire 14 days from their first use.)

Dining Package:
*Same package as above with park hopper/room/base dining option for 4: $ 2,533.84

This is just an example of the many packages disney has to offer for a value resort.  There are moderate and deluxe also available all with different themes making it a fun experience.  And if you can’t choose between hawaii and disneyworld, well stay at Disney’s polynesian resort, not quite hawaii, but you can try to get the best of both worlds. Because of the many different options that are offered it is helpful to have an agent to advise you of your choices and help plan out your days at disney to make it the most time saving and memorable for you.

So it’s that time of year again!  If you haven’t started planning your summer vacations for you and your family it’s time to start.

Info on the world of booking travel to Hawaii

These are some of the questions I have been getting lately and some misconceptions of booking travel…

First Tip: Class of Service

*What is class of service?

All airlines have classes of service which are assigned a letter.   When you get a quote it will have the Airline, ex: UA-United AA-American, HA-Hawaiian, TZ-American Trans Air, DL-Delta Airlines, etc.  Well next to that is normally a number which is the flight number and then you will see a letter next to that, well that is class of service.  Not only do the airlines have first, business and coach class, coach is also broken up into different classes of service and assigned a letter.  Each class of service comes with a different price tag.  So often times people ask should I wait and see if the prices come down?  No you shouldn’t.  Once the lowest class of service sells out, it will go to the next lowest and next and so on until the flight is sold out, so either A. The flight will sell out completely or B. you will end up with the highest class of service which will end up costing more. Bruce and Yaling discuss class of service on their podcast. This is the reason why you should jump on a quote immediately if you see something that you want because you never know, tomorrow the class of service may be sold out and then the price will increase.  So it’s important to know that when you get a quote it is not holding any space for you, it’s quoting you what is available at the time the quote is done.  Thousands and thousands of people are also trying to plan their trips to hawaii everyday, not just you so if you don’t jump on the deal someone else will.

*What is the difference between bulk fares and published fares?

Bulk Fares are special contracted airfares that our wholesalers have with the airlines.  Bulk fares do not fluxuate quite as much as published fares do, ex: You go on an airlines website today, find a great deal, go back tomorrow, all of sudden the price is higher, because published fares fluxate a lot.  With bulk fares you do not have to pay upfront for your air.  Yes the air price is not locked in with just a deposit, however the class of service is.  The only time it would increase with just a deposit is if the airline increases it’s prices.  In the event of a scheduled increase your advantage with booking with Hawaii Aloha Travel is that if there is going to be a scheduled increase most times we will warn you about a week prior to , giving you the opportunity to pay the air and minimum land portion to ticket your air, thus locking your price in.  This doesn’t mean you have to pay off your entire package, just the air and minimum land.  If the price never increases before your final payment well then you just pay at final payment.  If it does then you pay the air/minimum land and the balance at final payment

EX: Your package is $7000.00, your air is $2000.00, (now depending on the airline will depend on what is needed to ticket, some are full air plus deposit, some are full air plus minimum land)
So say to ticket your air is full air plus deposit and you have 2 travelers with waiver then you pay $2,178.00 to ticket the air, the balance of $ 4822.00 would be due on or before your final payment due date.  Even if there is an increase, think you may have had an extra month to pay off your air instead of paying it in full the day you booked it.  That could save you some interest on a credit card.

Published Fares are non contracted fares.  Usually it’s what you see out there on a daily basis.  Published fares do fluxate often and have to be paid for and ticketed the day you book it, so your full airfare would have to be paid the day you are booking.  We can book published fares in a package as well as bulk fares.  There are some airlines we do not have contracted bulk fares with, doesn’t mean we can’t get them, just know that when asking for published fares in a package you must pay for them that day.

What is the advantage of booking bulk fares?
*Well for starters as above if you are not prepared to pay in full for your air then there is the first advantage of booking a bulk fare.
*Bulk fares are covered with the $39.00pp cancellation waiver we offer for ANY Reason.  Published fares are non refundable.

So keep those things in mind when booking airfare.  You may be searching the internet which I know a lot of you are doing for pricing but can’t pay for it at that time.  Well we can get the same air price you are if you are prepared to pay for it right now.  If you cant we can get you a bulk fare no problem…it may be less, it may be a little more, but even if it’s $20.00 more, you will probably pay that if not more in interest on a credit card.

Second Tip:Christmas Travel

As we all know from last year christmas is not the cheapest time to travel to hawaii, however it is a very very popular time to want to go.  You prefer not to freeze on christmas day this year so you want to go to hawaii.  Well just know that christmas travel is not going to be cheap.  Airfares are not at their all time low then and the hotels often times don’t offer any deals, like say we see a lot of 4th, 5th or 6th night free promotions, food and beverage credits, etc during the year, dont expect to see those at christmas time.  Holiday season for travel is normally around Dec. 15-Jan 6.
-I had a customer the other day trying to get a quote for christmas and also on her computer at the same time checking expedia..the dreaded E word.  Well I got her the same flights and price as expedia, but expedia said that the food and beverage credit was included.  Now I know that from dec. 22-Jan 2 is still holiday season and that property is not offering that credit.  Please be weary when doing it online like that as I know she will be disappointed when they don’t give her , her credit.  Then she will try to call expedia and guess what? one of two things, either she won’t get through or they will say sorry misprint on the website..oh well.

*Always try to call the online booking company and see if that is correct AND call the property to see if they are offering that.  Ask the online booking company if it is their promotion they are giving (and get it in writing) or if it is a hotel promotion.  If they say it’s a hotel promotion then ask the property direct and tell them you found it on, whatever online site you found it,  so they can be sure to get you the correct information.  It could be a simple misprint but when you are expecting that and don’t get it, it could aggrevate you on your trip.  Remember we look at these promotions on a daily basis, we know what dates the properties are not offering them, we don’t tell you to be "I told you soers" we tell you so that you are properly informed. If it was wrong online and we got you the same price, why book it yourself online versus having a personal agent do it for you, alerting you to any schedule changes and helping if any problems should arise. If we make a mistake we fix it. Even when we don’t make a mistake and things happen we do try our best and usually succeed at helping you fix your problem. Don’t expect the same from online booking engines.

Third Tip: Group Travel

*Time and time again I get the people saying well I called the airlines for a group rate and it’s not any cheaper than I can book it online myself.  Our rates most times will beat the airlines group rates and sometimes even beat the individual pricing you see online.

Here is where group travel differs and you CANNOT book group travel (10 travelers or more on most airlines) online.  If you notice on online booking engines or even on airline websites themselves you cannot put in more than 6 or 7 travelers, that is because you can’t book that many online.  Groups are a whole different ball game.

*Remember the class of service we talked about earlier?  That comes into play here.  You can try all you want to book that "cheap" fare you saw online.  You book 7 tickets, and by the way you have to pay for them, then try to book 7 more, well now class of service went up, not so cheap anymore, so you book it , again you have to pay for it, then you try to book your remaining passengers…oops flight sold out, now what?  only half your group can get on that flight and you already paid for them.

With our group fares we make sure there is space by contacting the airline prior to your booking and making sure and clear it with them that they have enough space on a flight for you.  Once booked you don’t even have to pay for it all at once.  $50.00 deposit is required, final payment and name list is due somewhere between 45-50 days prior to departure.  Now sometimes that deposit does not go toward the final payment, however you will be refunded after travel has been completed provided  no one cancels creating a penalty on that one ticket.

Airlines require 10 or more travelers to be booked as a group, there is no getting around that basically so don’t try to book some online cheap fare for a big group.  You may see a good webfare, chances are they are not going to give you that fare for more than 10 tickets, it’s just a fact.  You may not understand why but it’s an airline rule and when booking travel if you want to get there, you have to play by the airlines rules and so do we.  So in short, bottom line, don’t try to book a big group online, it won’t work.

What happens when I submit for a quote online with Hawaii Aloha Travel?

Here are some things to know about what happens when you input information for a hawaii vacation quote with Hawaii Aloha Travel.

  • Personalized service:  Each individual customer gets personalized service from one of the agents.  Realize that when you go to the website and you enter in your information and actual live agent is doing your quote for you.  You get personalized service from beginning to the end of your trip.  Any problems while traveling, you can call your agent, changes before your trip call your agent, suggestions of tours to do, again call your agent.  The reason we are Hawaii Aloha Travel and book all inbound hawaii vacations is because most of us were born and raised on the islands, if not we have lived there for many years and we know the islands best.  Who better to book your trip than someone who only knows hawaii as their everyday life?

** Some important notes when requesting a quote via email.

* Check your junk mail.  There are many times people request a quote and sometimes our emails will go to junk mail so check your junk mail if you are expecting a quote from us.  The quote will be emailed to you right away from one of the agents, within the day unless of course you are a night owl and putting it in really late at night when we are all asleep then it will be emailed to you first thing the next day.

*We do send followups after our initial quote.  This is not to bug you or push you or pressure you.  We just simply want to make sure you got your quote as I mentioned above we do go to junk mail sometimes, sometimes people have a slip of the finger and enter the wrong email address, so if you don’t get a quote you submitted for then either try again or call us.  If there is a number provided which I believe is a required field however , some don’t want to give their phone number and give a fake, then we will call you if we can’t get through to you via email or if we need more info to do your quote. It’s best to look at the quote right away and ask us for any changes right away because a quote does not hold space for anything so the faster you work with us to get it just the way you want it, the better for you.  As courtesy knowing an actual agent is taking the time to plan your trip and give you a quote, if you are not interested a simple email would be appreciated to just let us know, or if you are finding a lower price send it over and we can try to beat it or match it.  You are not locked into us if you ask for a quote, however we do try to give the best customer service and price to all our customers.

**If you can give us as much info as possible under the details portion , the agents do love that.  It helps us better get to know what you want and need as every customer is different and it gives us a better feel for what you want.

  • What if I received my quote and it is not what I wanted?  Well to that I say contact the agent and discuss what it is you want.  While the quotes via email do work great, being it only takes a minute of your time and then you put it in our hands to plan your trip, it doesn’t always convey exactly what you want if it is just a simple one with dates, hotel and car.

If you don’t know what you want that is understandable as that is why most people come to us, so we can help guide them of where to go and what to do.

Don’t send requests for one day on each island.  I get so many requests for this and it is not practical.  When I get these I will alter it and send it out explaining what and why I did what I did.  It’s not because I am trying to "control" your vacation and not give you what you want.  It’s simply because I know it won’t work.

So why can’t I do one night on each island?

*Well for starters it will get pretty expensive.  You have to plane ride from island to island.  That is 5 interisland flights you would have to pay for.

*Vacation time is wasted.  I think people get the misconception that it is a 1/2 hour plane ride, no big deal.  Think again. The flight may be short, however it’s still an air flight.  You still have to check your bags in, arrive 90 minutes prior to your flight.  Then you land, go to baggage claim, wait for your bags, get your bags, go get your car, then you are on your way, then same thing the next day and the next day.  How relaxing can that be?  Really you can’t do or see much either in that short period of time on each island so it makes no sense.  If that is the case then you should do a cruise on one of NCL’s ships to all the islands.  Then you would eliminate plane rides and check in and check out.  Simply board on Oahu, cruise the islands  getting off at each port however your bags are in your cabin, no check in and check out, pack and unpack..it’s less time consuming and more practical.  Also there are not direct flights from every single island to another.  You would think common sense they are close just hop over.  Not the case.  Not easy to get a direct to molokai or lanai, usually only from honolulu, so more than likely one or two of those flights are going to have a stop on the way , wasting even more time out of your one day on that island.

*Most of the quotes I do get for the one night on each island also say budget hotel.  Well we run into a problem there also.  Lanai has a four seasons and well a four seasons, so you aren’t going to get budget there.

  • What is a log in and password?   Well we send you an itinerary making it easier for you to make payments.  You can log in to your own itinerary see it there and click pay this reservation.  Simply enter your payment info and how much you would like to pay and we will enter the payment for you.  Simple as that.  A lot of people are enjoying this feature we now have.  Let’s face it, people are busy, it’s more convenient and we are in the age of technology so why not make it easier for you.  That is what we try to do in making booking your trip simple, easy, quick and most importantly enjoyable and worthwhile for you, the customer.
  • Can I create my own password?  Sure you can, once you log in.  What happens is we input your quote, and the computer automatically generates you a log in and password, which gets sent to you.  Initially you use that link, log in and use the password assigned, then once in there you may change your password to something easier for you to remember.

Even if you are calling in to get a price quote don’t be afraid to ask for it in an email as most times we will ask you for an email address for us to send you the quote we discussed as it is most preferable that you actually look at it.  The quote will have the airline, flight number, flight times (which are always local to the state you are in ) , hotels, room view, if any specials that we choose it will include a description of that, cars, tours, transfers, anything that you want in your itinerary will be all there in front of you to see.

So now that you got the know hows and what really happens when you request a quote, submit yours today!  You can enter it on our webiste or if you want to email me direct you may.  I’m at chris@hawaii-aloha.com

Here are some things you should include..

phone number
dates of travel
what island(s) you would like to visit
Where you are traveling from
Do you want a car or transfers?
Hotel View: city/mountain, partial oceanview, oceanview, oceanfront
Type of Hotel: 5 star/moderate/budget?

And also any other details you would like me to know to help me better do the quote for you to what you want.

Or you are always free to call at 1-800-843-8771 ext. 32 to personally discuss an itinerary and pricing for your trip!

What to expect when trying to book my hawaii vacation.

I’ve had countless calls from people who are shopping the internet and can’t decide where to go on their vacation.  The podcast about over shopping the internet is a great one as I have had so many calls from people who are at their wits end and say they have been surfing the net for weeks and they give up and put it in our hands to do what we do best, which is book hawaiian vacations.

I also get many calls from people who are deciding what destination to go to and comparing prices.  Well to that I have to say , when booking your hawaiian vacation go in with your eyes open.  You can’t expect to get cancun and mexico pricing for hawaii.  They are no where near the same thing and you can’t compare them to each other.  It’s like going in to neiman marcus and telling the sales lady well I can get a jacket that looks just like that at walmart for much cheaper.  That is something no one would do , well same concept with hawaii compared to other destinations.

Also another thing I do get is comparing prices for two totally different properties.  There are times when I say to people "What kind of property are we looking for?  5 star resort/ moderate or budget?  Keep in mind budget doesn’t always mean bad.  We try to get properties that don’t cost so much but are still very decent.  Well often times I find myself trying to beat  an online booking agency for 2 totally different properties.  Be honest with your agent, and don’t try to haggle when you are finding a one star hotel online and trying to get them to give you a 5 star resort for the same price.  It’s not going to happen and it’s not fair to the agent to ask the impossible.   Star ratings on hotels are sometimes very different.  What one considers a 1 star another will consider a 3 star.  If you call an agent and ask them they can better tell you what at least they would consider it to be or more info about the property to have you make a more informative choice.  I have looked on some of those websites and they can be extremely deceiving.  In people’s minds they are thinking 3 star should be a good hotel, but in actuality when you get there you see what their idea of a 3 star hotel is, so don’t always go by the star system as everyone rates differently.

Why is hawaii so expensive?  Well it doesn’t  have to be.  We see so many great deals coming in every single day and to all of you that do find a great deal, book it because it’s a shame when someone finds a great deal and it disappears.  When you think about it, there are thousands of people shopping around every day for a hawaii trip.  If you don’t snatch up the deal when you find it, someone else will.

A lot of people try to set a budget for their trip which is a good thing to some extent.  You do have to be reasonable with the budget you set.  Take into consideration the time of year you are traveling, how long your trip will be, what kind of accomodations you want and the views you wish to have from your hotel room.

Another common thing people ask is why is food so expensive in hawaii.  Well it’s not always as bad as everyone thinks.  What I tell people is it really depends on how you like to eat.  I’m not saying eat fast food everyday because of course you are on vacation, but you don’t have to eat expensive meals every single time you have a meal.  Food to hawaii has to be imported obviously for the most part so it is not cheap to get it there, but it’s not outrageously expensive either.  They aren’t trying to get you all the time because you are on vacation, it’s just not cheap to ship food to hawaii.  Land.  Land is not cheap in hawaii.  There is not much of it so simple supply and demand comes into play.  Realize that yes sometimes the resorts cost more in hawaii, but their land is not cheap.  To purchase land in hawaii does cost a lot of money.

Again no passport is needed to travel to hawaii, yes we drive on the same side of the road and car as everyone else.  Well not everyone else, but the rest of America anyways.  Yes we speak english.

Another misconception I get from people seeing me on the website is that I am from hawaii and I probably look a little different so I am hawaiian.  Just because people are born and raised in hawaii or even just live in hawaii doesn’t make them of hawaiian blood.  That is the great thing about hawaii.  There are so many cultures and races mixed it’s the most beautiful thing to see all these different people living together.  It makes for a great big melting pot.  Just because all of us are not hawaiian doesn’t mean we don’t know the islands, of course we do, we are from there, born and raised for most of the agents with hawaii aloha travel.  Once you live in hawaii, you are an island girl or boy for life I like to think.  It’s always said you can take the girl (or boy) out of hawaii, but you can’t take hawaii out of the girl (or boy).

So if you are looking for a tropical destination, full of rich culture, great history and a mix of people who have the most beautiful personalities in the world then hawaii is the place to go.  I am one of those agents away from home as bruce mentioned in his podcast and have been away for a few months on a temporary move as my husband is in the military and believe me I missed hawaii from the moment I stepped off that airplane.  It’s not the same and there really is no place like those tropical islands in the pacific.

So if you need some help booking a trip to a place that will always be home in my heart no matter where I am you can call or email me and I would be happy to give you a helping hand!

Last Minute Package First Class!

I just did a last minute package from Norfolk Virginia to Oahu for first class again!  This is for 6 nights in February for 2 passengers.  I have had more and more people ask for first class seats especially from the east coast.  We have bulk fares and not published so it often comes out much cheaper.  I checked what the fares were going for straight through the airline and again here is where a travel agent can come in handy for you.  With our great contracted fares my customers paid much less for first class than what they would have paid for coach seats through the airline.  It doesn’t hurt to ask your agent for prices with first class, sometimes the fares are so low you would be suprised.

Norfolk , VA to Honolulu, Hawaii for 2 passengers , First class, oceanview room and roundtrip transfers.

The Kona Village Resort

Today we had a conference call with Karen the director of Leisure Sales for the kona village which was a very enlightening call for us.  Karen was extremely friendly and answered all of our questions very thoroughly.  We learned a lot of things about this resort and got the inside scoops from her.  I just wanted to share a few things that we talked about.  This resort will definately give you a unique experience!  If you want to experience hawaii in the fullest this is the place to stay.

When booking the Kona Village Resort you are getting your hale (house) which is what their rooms are called, your meals are all included, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Spa servies are extra, alcohol is not included.  May and September they do not have the children’s program as those months hawaii usually sees more of an adult crowd, however children are always welcome at the Kona Village.

This resort is about 4 miles north of the kona airport, just north of the four seasons.  They do not have shuttles but taxi service can be arranged with the property.  If you are not getting a car rental, no problem!  They have hertz rentals on the property for you to rent if you may just want it for a day or two as with this resort you won’t have to leave much!

The meal plan is mandatory but why not?  You get 3 meals a day with fresh ingredients prepared by a top chef!  Why would you want to eat anywhere else.  Their selection is huge, with something for everyone.  If you are vegetarian , no problem!  They have a luau on their property which has a minimal fee.  They do turkey for those who don’t  eat pork (kalua pig).  They have thought of everything to make their guests happy!

There are no resort fees here.  Snorkeling equipment is free of charge, umbrellas for the beach are free of charge.  Non motorized equipment is included.

The rooms do not have TV’s or phones, no internet access, but if  you are going to hawaii, you aren’t going to watch TV talk on the phone or do work.  You are there to relax and enjoy and spend quality time with your loved ones.  Cell phones do work at the property however they respectfully ask that you do not use them in public areas as the guests of this resort are there to do their "hawaiian getaway".

The map of the property does look enormous, though it only takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from one end to the other.  If you are a disabled guest or have a hard time getting around it is suggested to book in the core part of the hotel so you will be close to everything, however they do have bellman with golf carts that may assist you if you need it.  Told you they think of everything.

There are always 2 places available to eat your meals, weather it be luau night and a restaurant or 2 different restaurants open.  They have 3 lounges.

Meal times run breakfast from 730am-930am, lunch 1130am-2pm, 2pm -4pm they are open for salads and sandwhiches for those late lunchers or snackers, and dinner is from 530pm-930pm.

They do have refridgerators in the rooms which they stock for you daily with soda, juice and water.  Also coffee makers with replenished coffee daily.

There are 2 pools on property for your enjoyment . If you want more of a sandy beach you should book the Sand Area, The Lava section is oceanfront however not a sandy beach and then there is the pond area for those first timers or perhaps you would rather spend that extra money elsewhere and don’t have to be oceanfront.  Either one you pick I’m sure you will enjoy it.

The Kona Village has a lot of satisfied customers who repeatedly return, so  jump on the bandwagon, book your hawaii dream vacation today!

For your special island getaway to the beautiful Kona Village call or email me today for a quote.
