Hawaii Gets into Black Friday Shopping Shape

There's nothing like some Black Friday shopping to wake you up from all that Turkey Day triptafen – literally. Discounts and deals will keep your heart pumping and your body moving throughout most of the day. Despite getting up in the wee hours of the morning to beat the rush, there's absolutely no time to be tired. Holiday shopping is serious business.

Yaling Shoping

And lucky for shoppers in Hawai‘i, most venues are outdoors. That means a refreshing breeze to cool off those steamy checklists and to keep from getting stuffed up with all that "ThanksGetting" madness. For the ultimate open-air shopping experience on O‘ahu, check out Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ward Center, the Waikīkī strip and outlets in Waikele. Shopaholics on Maui could go to Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center in Kahului, and on Kaua‘i, there are a bunch of outdoor stores in Poipu's new plantation-style shopping village.

With that in mind, it's safe to say that shopping in Hawai‘i definitely qualifies as an "outdoor activity," or dare we call it, "exercise!?" Hiking, surfing, swimming – but, shopping? You're not only getting fresh air but burning calories as well. So no need to feel guilty about eating that second slice of pumpkin pie! Brisk walk from one end of the mall to the other or race savage shoppers to the last white iPad mini. Whatever it takes to break a sweat! You could even choose the stairs over escalators if you want to be extra diligent with your shopping workout.

And nothing gets your body moving and grooving like music does. Most malls have a "center stage" area, and you can bet that the ones in Hawai‘i will be pumping with lots of holiday cheer! Even if it's just the overhead music inside of a store – cha cha between clothes racks or hula through those seasonal hires to really make your Black Friday experience in the islands a fun one!

The malls on all islands are great during the holidays, they do have wonderful entertainment…and I think you meant tryptophan, as triptafen is an anti-depressant LOL..then again after all that shopping I might need some triptafen

@Tara: Haha! Good catch! And yes, several shopping bags and credit card charges later…and I’m in need of some of that, too!
