For Non-touristy Hawaii Vacation ideas on Oahu, Look East

Oahu is where Waikiki is, and Downtown Honolulu, and the surf-fabled North Shore.  There isn’t a lot of shouting about the eastern end of the island, although there are good attractions to consider there, as well:  Hanauma Bay, Sea Life Park and the beautiful drive to the residential Windward area, for instance.

Often completely overlooked is the Maunalua Bay area.  Maunalua Bay Beach Park itself offers jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving, powerboat rides, and other fun activities, out of sight of the busy and often-crowded better-known spots.

Maunalua means "two mountains," referring to Koko Head and Koko Crater, the two prominent peaks at the east end of the island.  The bay is known for its pristine reef, allowing you to, at high tide, to take a walk on the sandbar and explore it.  Based at nearby marinas and shopping centers, vendors can open doors for you to several bay and ocean adventures.

You can experience the ocean in easy-to-operate breathing observation bubbles. How about a ride on the bay on a jet ski or a  sightseeing boat cruise from which you can snorkel or fish?   It’s a great place to learn to surf In a secluded bay on your own private waves.
