Helpful Hawaii Vacation Tips

by Christine Porter - Hawaii Aloha Travel

The Hilton has a free show every friday night on Oahu with a band and dancers and fireworks. I shared this with some of my customers as they don't have to be staying there to attend. It is held at the superpool there right inside the lobby.

Not sure about all airlines, but northwest leaving honolulu is strict about the weight of baggage. If it is an incling over 50 pounds they will charge $25.00 per bag that is overweight. My parent's didn't have a problem leaving florida but on the way out they had to rearrange things to make all the bags weight limit, as was a lot of people so I don't think people know about that rule and the charges as we witnessed a very distraught man yelling at the northwest lady in the airport.

I have seen at the hilton, but I recall seeing elsewhere a service where they will deliver your bags to the airport for you and you can print your boarding passes right there also, although of course everything at the hilton comes for a price. It is $25.00 a person for this service though some people may find it worth it especially if they are traveling with a bunch of kids or something. (Note though that if the bags are overweight they won't have the chance to rearrange things like my mom did at the airport and then may be stuck with the overweight charge if they think their bags may be overweight.)

My mother also didn't know about the TSA approved locks for the luggage which I find a lot of people don't know about. I got mine at home depot but I know kmart, walmart, and those luggage stores have then also. If anyone didn't know TSA has a master key for those locks so they are allowed to be used. Most people just don't lock their bags nowadays but ever since my bags were delivered to the wrong room at the westin unlocked I prefer my bags locked nowadays.
