Thanksgiving in Hawaii

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

November and December have always been my favorite months :)  It starts out with a delicious feast (or several feasts) with family and friends - and end with the smell of christmas trees & colorful lights.  Today we’ll be getting together with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and great grandparents.  We had our turkey cooked in an imu (photos below) - which is a traditional Hawaiian underground oven. 

If you are on Oahu not everything is closed on Thanksgiving weekend - have some fun!:

Turkey Trot 10 Mile Run (Thanksgiving Day)
The 34th Annual Honolulu Marathon Clinic Turkey Trot 10 Mile Run will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2008.

Waikiki Holiday Parade (Evening After Thanksgiving)
Every year there is a holiday parade in Waikiki the Friday evening following Thanksgiving. The parade features high school and military bands from across the United States. The parade usually takes place from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The parade route starts at the corner of Saratoga Road and Kalakaua Avenue and it proceeds down Kalakaua Avenue and Monsarrat Avenue to Kapiolani Park.

Thanksgiving Weekend Christmas Parades
There are quite a few Christmas parades on Oahu the weekend after Thanksgiving. On November 28 there are parades in the communities of Liliha-Palama and Kalihi. On November 29 there are parades in Hawaii Kai, on the north shore, and on the Waianae Coast of Oahu. And on Sunday, November 30 from 3:00 to 10:00 pm there will be a street celebration and Christmas Lighting Ceremony in Kaneohe on the windward side of Oahu.

Mission Houses Museum 35th Holiday Fair
The 35th annual Mission Houses Holiday Craft Fair will take place November 29-30, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The museum is located at 533 South King Street in the historic Capitol District of Honolulu. For more information call 808-531-0481.

Islandwide Christmas Crafts and Food Expo
The Islandwide Christmas Crafts and Food Expo will have more then 400 vendors and it will take place November 28-30, 2008 in the Exhibition Hall of the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, 777 Ward Avenue in Honolulu.

LCC Holiday Choral Concert
The Leeward Community College Kanikapila Singers will be joined by local elementary school and high school students for this Christmas concert at the Leeward Community College Theatre.
