Honolulu City Lights Christmas Celebration

Another childhood memory…when I was little we would always go downtown to Honolulu on the first Saturday in December to see the lighting of the huge City Christmas tree and also to watch the Electric Light Parade.
The Honolulu City Lights tradition began in 1985 with one Christmas the grounds of Honolulu Hale (City Hall). Today the lighted 50 foot Christmas tree connects lighted Christmas trees and building spread out thru Chinatown, Downtown, the Capitol District and the Civic Center area.
This year the opening night celebration will be Saturday December 6, 2008 and the event continues thru January 1, 2009. Honolulu City Lights is free to the public.
Opening Night Schedule - Saturday, December 6, 2008
6:00 p.m. Tree Lighting Ceremony & Electric Light Parade
6:30 p.m. Tree/Wreath Displays
7:30 p.m. Holiday Concert Starts
The Honolulu City Lights Christmas celebration is unique because of the giant holiday characters situated throughout the grounds of Honolulu Hale. There is a 21-foot-tall Shaka Santa, who sits cooling his toes in the City Hall fountain, and a giant Snow Family to name a few of the characters that provide countless photo settings for families celebrating the holidays.
