Eddie Would Go!! Quicksilver Big Wave Invitational
One of my best memories of the Big Wave Eddie Aikau surf competition was on New Years Day in 1999. It was great to wake up after a great night of celebrating and ringing in the New Year with friends and family & I remember my friend Amanda called and said "the Eddie is on lets go!" In less than an hour we were down on the beach saying hello to people we’d seen maybe six or seven hours before champagne in hand!

the Eddie is definitely the most exciting of all the North Shore surf competitions and in its 23 year history the competition has only been held seven times. Honoring big wave surfer and lifeguard Eddie Aikau, the Quiksilver Big Wave In Memory of Eddie Aikau can only be held when the surf measures at least 20 feet (Hawaiian scale) for a full day of competition.

The holding period started on November 30th and I am so stoked to say that we may see those daring big wave surfers out competing sometime this weekend!! There is a swell arriving late today, and peaking overnight, estimated to deliver swell in the 12 to 15 foot (Hawaiian scale) range that will persist into Friday, delivering wave face heights of around 20 to 25 feet. The second, possibly larger swell has organizers on their watch expecting it to fill in throughout Sunday and peaking in the late afternoon.
