The Grand Wailea is a $600-million, 780-room hotel, built on an enormous forty-acre property is a multifaceted, pro-active resort, offering a vast array of diversions with rooms attractively decorated in earthy Hawaiian tones; preferable are the private Napua Club rooms, which include a dedicated concierge and complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails. In the majestic public areas you will see a spectacular, $30-million art collection, including Botero sculptures, paintings by Picasso and Warhol and other artworks (they give complimentary art tours if you’re interested). Six restaurants and three lounges vie for your attention, with the best food found at the splendid Kincha, which serves Japanese cuisine. There are mosaic-tiled pools - including the 2,000-foot long Wailea Canyon Activity Pool, amazing water slides, the world’s only water elevator and a 20,000-square-foot Camp Grande for children. In the middle of all this is a re-creation of an old Hawaiian missionary church to handle any weddings that come along. The most dazzling attraction is the 50,000-square-foot Spa Grande, a lavish (and expensive) facility that offers massages, facials, aromatherapy, body wraps and lava hot-stone therapy. For golfers, there is a choice of the four courses right in Wailea and Makena.

In this blog I’ve decided to give attention to the incredible Camp Grande.  This is by far the bes kids camp anywhere!!  It is all at Camp Grande - a fun, spacious and friendly mini-resort for kids 5 to 12 years old! The 20,000 square facility is designed to accommodate the whim of every child and their parents. Fun and exciting activities range from learning to play the ukulele, dancing hula, Hawaiian Lei making, to playing ancient Hawaiian lawn games, kite making and storytelling.

Camp Grande facilities include:

• Whale-shaped wading pool
• Movie Theater with wide selection of movies

• South Shore Break Snack Bar
• Coin-operated video arcade
• Foosball and ping pong tables
• Kiddieland - indoor play area with Lego blocks and board games
• Large crafts room

Camp Programs

Morning session - 9:00am - 12:30pm
Kids begin with a "friendship circle" so that they can meet fellow campers and get to know their counselors. Activities may include sand sculpting contests, guided tide pooling and reef exploration, nature walks along the beach, swimming, relay races, games, arts & crafts, and scavenger hunts.

Afternoon session - 12:30pm - 4:00pm
Afternoons are filled with water fun at the Wailea Canyon Activity Pool and later kids relax in the Camp Theatre and enjoy popcorn and snacks.

Night Camp - 5:00pm - 10:00p
Exciting adventures are in store for kids with walkie-talkie tag, hotel scavenger hunts, sand crabing, theatre games, picture frame making and cookie decorating.

A minimum of 3 children are necessary to operate Day and Night Camp. Please call Camp at least 24 hours in advance at extension 4555 to register. To expedite registration at Camp Grande, please stop by Camp Grande to fill out a Medical Information form prior to the first day of camp enrollment.

Camp Workshops

Camp Grande offers interesting workshops daily for the whole family.

Workshops are independent of regular Camp Grande sessions. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Some Camp Grande facilities are available to guests of the Grand Wailea Resort and their children who do not participate in the Camp Grande program, including the Playstation and X-box game room, South Shore Break Snack Bar, coin-operating video game arcade, whale shaped wading pool and Kiddieland indoor play area. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Facilities are available from 9am to 4pm and 5pm to 9pm.

Camp Grande Schedules

Camp Grande is for children ages 5-12 of hotel guests only.

Registration takes place at the start of each session. Morning Camp includes lunch, Afternoon Camp includes a snack and Night Camp includes dinner and snack. Parents are welcome to join their children for lunch or dinner.

Guidelines

A minimum of 3 children are necessary to operate Day and Night Camp.

Sign In and Sign Out Procedures
Every child attending Camp Grande must be signed in and out each day. We require the name and relationship of each person authorized to sign your child in or out. You must notify Camp Grande if someone not listed as authorized will be signing your child out.

Early Drop Off and Late Pick Up Fees
If your child will be arriving at Camp Grande earlier or departing later than the specified session times, 24-hour notice is required. A charge of $10.00 per child, per half hour, will apply for extended times when 24-hour notice is given. If you are late picking up your child and no notice has been given, the charge is $10.00 per child, per fifteen minutes.

Personal Belongings
Your child is solely responsible for his or her own personal belongings. Camp Grande will not be held responsible for lost or damaged items. Children should not bring candy or weapon-like toys to Camp Grande. Children should only bring money if they are planning to utilize the coin-operated video game arcade.

Swimming Requirements
All children 5 years of age and older will be given a swimming test to determine swimming ability. Use of Wailea Canyon Activity Pool is up to the discretion of Camp Grande staff, based on child’s swimming ability as well behavior and listening skills. Children must be at least 44 inches tall to utilize the Lava Slide and Ana Puka Slide. Camp Grande attendees will not utilize the Gorge Slide. No flotation devices may be used on the water slides.

Emergency Procedures
If your child becomes seriously injured, we will attempt to notify you immediately. Your signature on the participation release form will authorize Camp Grande staff to select a doctor or hospital for your child, should an emergency arise. Minor injuries will be reported to you when your child departs Camp Grande.
