North Shore Turtle Beach of Hawaii
.jpg)
On the famous North Shore of Oahu you can spot "Honu", also known as green sea turtles basking the Hawaiian sun. The real name of the beach is called Laniakea, which is also a great surfing spot.
My family and I were just there and were lucky enough to see two on the sand and two swimming around in the water. This beach has become pretty popular for tourists and can get a bit crowded at times. There are daily volunteers there to keep the crowds under control for the safety of the turtles.
If you should encounter a Honu while snorkeling or swimming make sure to keep a distance of about 10 feet. Do not block their path as they make there way onto the beach. And especially do not touch or ever try to ride or sit on them.
Unfortunately, the green sea turtle is a listed as under the "Endangered Species Act" and is protected by Hawaii State law.
I would highly recommend you put this on your must do list. It is a great photo opportunity and a priceless memory. While you are out there on the North Shore, stop by Matsumotos in Historic Haleiwa and grab a shave ice.
That’s another story! Until next time…….. Mahalo, Isabel 1-800-843-8771×37
