Choosing a condo rather than a Hawaii hotel is very common especially for families or those travelling to Hawaii in small groups. In general, there is less inventory on the island of Oahu than there is on the other islands for condos so you may want to consider Maui Kauai or the Big Island if that suits your needs. There are also many new luxury condos which are also timeshares that make their inventory available to us and are becoming more and more popular. Luxury condos aren't cheap however, if you have more people in your party the overall cost is very affordable.
If you haven't chosen which island you wish to visit yet, that is also another consideration. Many folks who come to Hawaii don't want to be in a high-rise at a property with a lot of people, they want a more relaxed vacation. If that's your case then rule out Waikiki altogether because that's all that's available on Oahu. When people want this kind of the hotel experience we usually recommend the island of Kauai. There are no high-rise Hawaii hotels at all on Kauai so if you're looking for the more laid-back experience Kauai is perfect.
